Ministries
Acolytes: Trained youth in the church who serve on Sundays as torchbearers, Gospel bearers, crucifers, thurifers, and banner-bearers.
Altar Guild: St. Paul’s Altar Guild is a ministry that engages men and women to prepare our altar for weekly services. These services include Morning Prayer, Holy Eucharist, weddings, baptisms and funerals. The four teams alternate months of service. We provide the training to help new members learn this important ministry. For more information, call our church office (662) 328-6673 and Margaret Mauldin will be in touch with you. Learn more here.
Choir: Adults and young people who “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” by leading our parish in ancient and more modern hymnody. Our choristers also bring to life our Service of Lessons and Carols, each Advent, and Tenebrae Service, during Holy Week, along with other concerts throughout the year.
Food Pantry: On the corner of 3rd Ave. S. and 4th St. S., by the back parking lot of St. Paul’s is a wooden box used as our Food Pantry. Inside are non-perishable goods available to those in need. Please stock this pantry as you can. It constantly needs to be replenished. If you are able to take on more of a supervisory role in helping organize this ministry, call the church office (662) 328-6673 and speak with Lori.
Inquirer’s Class: Fr. Andrew will be preparing candidates for Confirmation by Bishop Wells when her new visitation schedule is announced. Confirmation training classes, to begin in the fall, are open to baptized persons above the age of 12 who are committed to taking personal responsibility for their dedication to the church. If you are already confirmed but would like to reaffirm your commitment you are also invited to join these classes. Please contact Fr. Andrew at the church office, (662) 328-6673 for more details.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers: Trained parishioners in the church who serve the chalice and assist beside the altar on Sundays and other times throughout the week.
Loaves and Fishes: This very active ministry serves with other community churches in providing meals for those less fortunate. Sometimes the meal is a simple soup lunch, and sometimes a full meal is served. You need no particular culinary skills to join this group, just a willingness to serve at one of the many jobs needed...pouring drinks, cleaning up, and serving plates. Ann Sparkman will be glad to answer your questions and skillfully integrate you into service. Call the church office (662) 328-6673 and give your name and number. Learn more at Loaves and Fishes website or the latest updates on the Facebook page.
Prayer Shawls: Every Thursday, a faithful group of knitters meet in the Earline Robertson Room from 10:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m. to create comfy shawls that go to those in need of comfort and prayer. Learn more here.
Readers: At both Sunday services, two lessons and the psalm are read. One lesson is from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament. This is a wonderful way to spread the words from our Bible to our church. Please call Lori at (662) 328-6673.
Ushers: Adults (and some youth) in the church dedicated to greeting all who enter, and helping them, throughout the service. Pews are filling at St. Paul’s! Thankfully, that means we need more ushers. John Brady is this team chairman. If you are willing to be scheduled, please call the church office (662) 328-6673 and let us know.
