Meet Fr. Andrew

The Rev. Andrew McLarty, joined St. Paul’s as rector in November 2023. He previously served as rector of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

He is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, but also lived in Tennessee a couple of times, as well as the Gulf Coast. He loves Columbus, the beauty of the river as it winds among the hills, the arts and culture, the delicious local flavors, and all the friendly people.

He was a philosophy undergraduate at the University of the South (Sewanee) and later received a Masters of Religious Education from Loyola New Orleans and a Masters of Divinity from the School of Theology at Sewanee. Before his ordination, he was a teacher at two Episcopal schools in Mississippi, and he served as a youth minister on parish and diocesan levels. His greatest passion is to teach and help people know and follow Christ.

Andrew is also the Diocesan Liturgist, an instructor in the A.C. Marble School for Theological Formation, and on the Board of Examining Chaplains. He is also a Trustee of the University of the South (Sewanee).

Andrew has been married to his wife, Emily (a graduate of the Mississippi University for Women), for twelve years. They have one child, Waverly, a Rottweiler named Hilde (St. Hildegard of Bingen), and a Bullmastiff/Giant Schnauzer mix named Lucy (St. Lucia).

When he's not around the church, you are likely to find Andrew in the backyard, slow-smoking some part of a pig. He also enjoys backpacking, corned-beef hash, Star Trek, and anything written by Andy Weir, Jim Butcher, or Patrick Rothfuss.
